How should I prepare for my appointment?

If you have an appointment for a Drug and/or Alcohol test, here’s what you need to know:

Testing may take between 15 minutes – 3 hours, depending on your ability to provide a urine sample.

Be on time, or even a bit early for your scheduled appointment. There is a small amount of paperwork that needs to be completed prior to testing. If you are late, it is important that you let our Customer Service Department know at 1-866-989-0499.

Please ensure you have two forms of Identification, with at least one of them being a legal picture ID (e.g. driver’s license, passport).

Do not drink excessive amounts of fluids prior to testing.

Please bring a list of current prescription medications, or the actual containers as well.

Our Medical Review Officer may contact you after your drug test to discuss your results. It is important to answer this call so that your results can be processed as quickly as possible

What should I bring to my appointment?

Bring your Government-Issued photo ID (Driver’s license, Passport, Military ID, etc.). Arrive a minimum of 15 minutes early to ensure that you have time to complete the paperwork required. Once you have arrived for your appointment and all paperwork is completed, you must remain inside the clinic until all of your tests are completed.

Where should I go for testing?

You will receive a text message or email confirming the location, date, and time of your appointment. You will need to confirm your time and location listed via text or email when it arrives on your phone or computer. This confirmation text/email will include a link to a map for directions to the clinic at which your appointment is scheduled.

What can I expect once I arrive to my appointment?

Once your photo ID is verified, you will receive paperwork to fill out, which includes a consent form that allows Precede to perform testing and provide the results to your employer/potential employer. Candidates who are booked in for a private test will have an alternate consent form, where candidates can indicate where they would like the results to be sent. Depending on the type of testing booked, candidates may also be required to fill out forms disclosing prescription or over-the-counter drugs that are currently being used, and questions pertaining to the candidate’s past medical history. It is important to know that if you are scheduled to have a full RN/Physician Medical, you should expect about 20-30 minutes of paperwork prior to your appointment, and 45-60 minutes for the medical exam.

Do I have access to my results?

If you’ve booked your appointment yourself, following testing, you will receive a text message or email depending on what your preference is.

How reliable are the drug test results?

A confirmed positive result offers almost 100% assurance that the specific drug is present in the specimen and will be sent to a lab for further testing and confirmation

Frequently asked questions for employers

You have questions, we have answers.

Why does my company need an occupational health and safety program?

Alberta’s Occupational Health and Safety Legislation require that employers do everything they can to protect the health and safety of their workers, which includes conducting a health and safety survey of the workplace. This legislation requires that a health and safety manual/process be established, with regular audits to determine if risks or dangers in the workplace are found, which in turn determines if medical surveillance programs are needed.

As an employer which types of drugs should I be testing for?

At Precede, we offer the five, seven, nine, and ten-panel drug screen as a standard component of the post-offer employment program, as well as the 12-panel drug screen upon request, if needed. These tests offer immediate results in detecting the presence of standard drugs of abuse that are being tested for.

Do I have access to my employees’ results?

If you are a customer/client of Precede, you will have access to our custom Results & Reporting Software Portal. Once in the software, you will have access to current and historical results and have the ability to search, perform queries, and retrieve statistics.

How reliable are the drug test results?
